Self-esteem is how individuals feel about themselves.. Having self-esteem helps people foster a positive outlook for themselves and the world around them. When children try new things and bounce back, they learn and grow. That is why self-esteem plays an important role in a child''s development. Toddlers start developing an understanding of self-esteem themselves. You can play an important role in nurturing your child''s growth.

It will help them understand themselves and their self-worth.  self-esteem affects how they look at the things happening around them and how they cope with life adversities and challenges.

Explain to your children that setbacks are a part of life. Show your children that you value them regardless of whether they win or lose. It helps a child to focus on their abilities other than on their limitations.Make them understand their self-worth and self-acceptance for who they are, even people around them that do not accept them.

Having great self-esteem from an early age leads to being a confident adult with significant mental health. Developing self-esteem in children can be quick and easy by helping them identify with things they like about themselves, showing them an appreciation for their efforts, ensuring that they get enough validation from the adults around them. The parents play an important role in teaching self-confidence and esteem to their kids.

Tips for fostering self-esteem

Here are some tips that can help you foster self-esteem in your child:

1. Encourage your children that losing is a part of life. Show your children that you value them regardless of whether they win or lose. This one might sound like a no-brainer; parents need to be giving positive feedback such as praise, encouragement., etc., towards their children. It plays an instrumental role in building the kid''s self-confidence because they feel good about it.

2. Be a good role model:  The parent is a child''s first example, so you must have self-respect and self-confidence when dealing with other people and in different situations.

3. Spending quality time: It helps your child’s self-esteem develop when parents know what their kids enjoy doing, such as family activities such as going on trips, just the two of you, or perhaps playing a game together.

4. Set goals: self-esteem can also be grown when parents set goals for self-development, such as learning new skills or working towards long-term professional goals.

5. Provide healthy competition:  You should encourage children to think positively about themselves while still recognizing that others may have some skills they do not and provide opportunities where there can be some healthy competition without making it seem like children''s self-worth depends on who wins the grading, this will help them learn how to win gracefully but also lose gracefully.

6. Give children your time: self-esteem grows when you give your child plenty of time and patience, especially when struggling to learn something or make a mistake.

7. Be supportive: Self-esteem also grows when parents show their children that they can be depended on and trusted not to let them down. When parents set firm limits but do so in a loving and supportive way, this allows children to know where the parent stands and feel secure that they will not be abandoned or left hanging if something goes wrong.

8. Praise: Self-esteem also grows as parents praise their children for their effort rather than always focusing on whether they win or lose, so ''way to go for all those hours spent practicing'' instead of ''you won!''.

9. Being gentle: self-esteem also depends on parents being gentle with their children because self-esteem is undermined when parents are too controlling and too self-involved. Yes, teach self-discipline but do it so that the child feels loved and understood by you.

10. Encouraging challenges: self-esteem also comes from doing things successfully. Parents need to encourage their children to take healthy risks to challenge themselves and become more confident over time as they master new skills.

11. Show Affection: self-esteem grows when parents show their children affection through loving words, hugs, kisses, and cuddles. Kids need to know that they are loved unconditionally no matter what happens. When you know you are loved, this allows you to take chances.

It is essential to foster self-esteem in a child from an early age. This self-esteem helps your kids grow into self-confident, self-assertive, and self-reliant people. If you want a self-confident child, make sure that they receive unconditional love from his parents and let him know how good it is to take risks in life.
