Introduction

A home is the safest place for your child. However, that does not mean that they won’t be harmed inside the home as a result of their own actions. If your child is alone at home, you have to ensure that safety measures at home are in order for you to have a sense of calm and the children to be secure as well, there are certain safety rules at home that every parent should follow. In this blog we will discuss how we can ensure our child’s safety at home.

Tips

Here are tips , you can follow to ensure child’s safety at home:

  1. Ensure that kids should be never alone in the water:

Playing in the bathtub is a fun activity for kids. But, leaving them completely unsupervised in the bathtub or in the washroom is not a wise decision. Unintended or aboriginal actions may result in consequences such as drowning or hurting themselves. Avoid leaving them alone even for a few minutes.

  1. Detergents, soaps or other chemicals should be kept out of your kids reach:

Kids are curious and snoopy. Many chemical products like soap, shampoo, or a floor cleaner have such an alluring odor that kids start meddling with their bottles and consume or inhale them. This can be very dangerous.  It is suggested to keep all these chemical products locked in a cabinet or on a high shelf well out of reach of the kids.

  1. All electrical outlets and their plug points should be child proof:

Electrical outlets, their plug points, switches, and holes are very tempting for kids to mess around with their fingers in. Moreover, unattended devices and cables could lead them to play around with and stick them in their mouth or neck. All these scenarios proved to be fatal for your kid. Primarily, make sure your home is properly grounded and all the electric lines are earthen properly. Cover all sockets with integrated covers all the time. Educate your kids about electricity and inform them about the dangers that come with it.

How

  1. Ensure a clutter-free sleeping area:

There is a tendency to fill a child’s room, especially with lots of pillows and soft toys. In the case of an infant or toddler, they do not have control over their actions and could pull up all these objects onto themselves and bury their face in blankets, pillows, and soft toys that could lead them to suffocate. Ensure all blankets and bedsheets are securely tucked into the bed. Keep the toys away from the bed.

  1. Keep a First Aid Kit Easily Accessible

No matter how many precautions and preventive measures one might take, accidents or misfortunes tend to happen. The only pre-determined action you can take is to be ready in such situations. Learn the basics of CPR in case you revive your kid’s breathing if they start choking or losing consciousness. Keep a first aid kit ready with bandages, creams, lotions, bite antidotes, and any prescribed medicines by your pediatrician that you think might be needed in case of emergency.

Tips

  1. Childproof the bathrooms

Childproofing should be done in bathrooms as well. Remove all the cleaning chemicals and toiletries from high shelves where kids cannot reach them. Keep child’s soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc on lower shelves or locked up in bathroom cabinets. Remove electrical appliances like hairdryers, curling irons, and other devices from the bathroom countertop as well. Make sure cords are not dangling within the child’s reach and they do not form a loop, as kids might get tangled in them as well as cause serious injuries to themselves.

  1. Childproofing of the doors:

Install child safety locks with lower heights so that your toddler does not carry out his escape plan by opening the door! Put child''s safety latches at the top of doors too, so that your little one cannot push it open with his small hands. It will help prevent falls through unbalanced doors as well as lockouts. Make sure all cabinet knobs are childproofed so that your child does not open them and get to dangerous items.

How

  1. Make sure that the kitchen is childproof

It is very important to childproof all units in the kitchen so that your child does not get into any hazardous equipment or sharp utensils. Make sure that cabinets are childproofed, so your child cannot reach for them and keep fingers safe. Keep child safety latches on all unit doors as well as drawers and child locks at a higher height so that they do not open up.

How

  1. Childproof electricity outlets:

Make sure that there are plastic covers on those electric sockets which have exposed plugs or those accessible with small hands. Get those power points that have sliding covers attached to them. Childproof plugs can help prevent shocks from coming out of electrical outlets. Equip child locks on cabinet doors where mops, brooms, and other long child-reach items are stored. So, the child cannot reach for them and keeps fingers safe.

Conclusion

For the child''s safety, it is important to childproof your home for child safety. Childproofing is the act of child-proofing your house to protect your child from harm. There are several child-proofing activities that you can do so that they provide a safe environment for your child. By taking some measures you can ensure your child''s safety in the house.
